The Power Gadgets You Need In Your Bag – Staying Mobile
In an increasingly mobile and tech-connected world, the need to charge our devices becomes more and more important. Check out the power gadgets you need in your bag, and how they will help you stay productive and on the go for longer.
Protecting Your Gear
A good surge protector is ALWAYS a must. All it takes is one accident and suddenly you find yourself without a working laptop or other bit of mission-critical gear. For protecting my tech on the road, I highly recommend this little unit from Belkin. It’s got three outlets and two USB ports, perfect for anyone who is frequently on the road. Truth be told, I have two of these in my collection. Yes TWO. One goes with me in my everyday bag along with my laptop and other useful gadgets. The other rides in my gig bag for events with SantSound or when I’m working events for the radio station. The other benefit to this travel charger is that people love that you have it with you. I’ve yet to have someone tell me I can’t plug this in at the airport so that MORE people can charge up while waiting for a flight.
Juicing Up Your Devices
I for one have plenty of devices that charge over USB, and the list quickly fills up.
- iPhone
- AppleWatch
- iPad
- FitBit
- External Battery Pack
- Bluetooth Headset
- etc…
Multiple outlets are great, but what if I need to charge more than two mobile devices and don’t have their individual USB adapters with me? Enter this baby from Anker, the most underrated tech company out there. It is a 40W charger that delivers exactly the right amount of charge to each device as it needs it, up to five (5) total at one time. Pretty nifty if you ask me, and it works just fine with nearly all of your everyday devices.

Charging on the Go – Battery
To round out my power needs, there are plenty of times where I don’t have access to an outlet and need to top off my cell phone or other device. Remember that external battery pack mentioned above? This thing is a beast. I’ve got a slightly older model that has three (3) USB ports, but this 16,000 mAh unit is just as handy. Let’s break down what that 16,000 mAh translates to, shall we?
- iPhone 6 – Six (6) full charges
- iPhone 6 Plus / Galaxy S6 – four (4) full charges
- iPad Air – one (1) full charge and then some.
That is some serious juice!
Charging on the Go – Solar
Solar you say? Yep! Whether you’re a nature-loving tree hugger, or an avid outdoor-dwelling fiend who just needs to top of their gadget, Anker also has a solar option. I’ve got one of these in my bag too, and it has come in handy for those multi-day excursions when all other options have been exhausted. I’ve even thrown it on a flat surface and used it to recharge my dead battery pack.

Final Thoughts
Between these four devices, there are very few power situations that you can’t manage. As someone who is constantly moving and pulling 18-20hr days, I couldn’t survive without them, ESPECIALLY that battery pack. Do your self a favor, check them out, and slowly make some investments to add to your bag. You can thank me later.
